COURSE STRUCTURE

Foundations

Remote | 6 weeks full time

Foundations is an accelerated, challenging experience. You will study remotely, taking on weekly challenges, and having weekly check-ins with tutors. It is vital you have reliable access to the internet throughout Foundations.

Bootcamp

Auckland, Wellington, or Online Campus
9 weeks, 60 hours per week

The 9 week Bootcamp is a completely immersive experience. Expect to be busy and focused. Most students commit about 60 hours per week to lectures, assignments, challenges, and side projects.

You will be guided by teachers who are passionate about helping students master the principles of software development, and you will learn by solving coding challenges in pairs, solo and in group projects.

We know the time commitment is intense so we offer mindfulness and long lunches to combat fatigue, and we are committed to supporting your emotional and physical wellbeing.

Human Skills

Weekly deep dives and check-ins

While we train you to be a junior developer, we equally emphasise teaching collaboration and interpersonal skills. Most web development is done in teams and requires effective communication with designers, project managers, and clients.

Careers

2 weeks, after Bootcamp - 50 hours

Our careers sessions will help you develop the skills to land your first dev job and grow your career. Topics include effectively job hunting, CV preparation, and skills for interviewing. Careers sessions are recorded so graduates can review them when preparing for a big job interview. Graduates can also work 1-on-1 with an industry recruiter to help with their job seeking efforts.

Our graduates say it best

Don't just take our word for it. Dev Academy students and graduates share their stories
about the programme, getting jobs and having meaningful careers.

“The human skills and the technical content is scaffolded and you’re always building on knowledge. You’re not thrown in the deep end, and you chalk up some successes along the way.”

Previously a secondary school teacher, Libby had always been an avid user of technology and felt drawn to learn more about how software is created.

After graduating from Dev Academy Libby worked at Flick Electric as a junior developer. Since 2020 she’s been at StoryPark, building on her experience in the education sector and combining it with tech to build a product that supports teachers, parents and children.

“If I could do the course at Dev Academy all over again, I would. It was an amazing learning experience and completely changed my career.”

Courtney had a chance encounter with coding at his Customer Experience job which led to tinkering with tech in his spare time. He decided to take the plunge and change careers. A colleague recommended Dev Academy, and the rest is history.

Dev Academy set Courtney up well for his first developer role at Xero, where he continued to learn and grow before moving to a role at Re-Leased, a PropTech company based in the Hawkes Bay.

“Careers Week was so unbelievably helpful for me. It was great to have someone from the tech recruitment sector to give us really good advice.”

After the first year of her Business Management degree in Scotland, Ellora made the decision to change paths and follow her passion for coding. A free evening course sparked her love of code, and she was ready to work instead of studying for 3 more years.

Dev Academy meant she could quickly transition into a tech career, so she travelled home and enrolled. Ellora graduated during the 2020 lockdown and landed a role as a Junior Engineer within a month.

 Graduate without uni debt

Course fees are $12,497

Junior Software Developers can expect a starting salary of $50,000 to $80,000 depending on location, employer and experience (the average is around $65,000). Tech salaries grow fast, with the median salary for tech jobs being over $100,000 within 6 years.

All fees can be covered by student loans for both Full-time and Part-time study, and living costs via allowances on our Full-time course. This means you could start as soon as you’d like without the financial burden of up front costs*.

*Student loan and allowance criteria apply.

Fees Free

If you are a first-time tertiary learner, or your first tertiary education was covered by the Targeted Training and Apprenticeship Fund, you may be able to get your fees covered as part of the government's fee free scheme.

The changes that come into effect in 2025 are that when you enrol you will need to organise payment of your fees with us, via a student loan. Then when you complete your qualification you make a claim through  the IRD website and your fees are refunded back to you. This portal will be available from 2026 onwards.Find out if you're eligible here
