Learn to code

Learn the skills to build software applications from concept to launch.

You'll learn:

  • Solid foundations in full-stack development & databases
  • Develop a strong portfolio of real-world projects
  • Get experience working as a theoretical software developer on a cross-functional team

Graduate into a rewarding career as a:

A Web Developer uses the programming languages taught on our bootcamp, such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript to create and maintain websites. You can specialise in front end (user facing) or back end (server) development or both, as a Full Stack Developer.
As a Software Engineer you're involved in the evolution and construction of software for computer operating system (OS) or app-based programs. Software Engineers are subject matter experts when it comes to programming languages and their systems and need to work independently, within a team, and with clients.
As a Front-end Developer, you build the client side of a website or application. There is more creative freedom as you can take an artistic approach instead of focusing on the technical aspects. Web pages combine structure, design, content, data and functionality and a Front-end Developer will create a user-friendly way for users to navigate the functions.

The tech stack

You'll start by learning web standard technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, moving into modern tooling like Node.js, TypeScript, React, and then to relational-databases, HTTP API's, and OAuth.
Over the course of the Bootcamp you'll also get the skills to pick up other coding languages you want to learn.

Our students become work ready, full stack developers by being given opportunities to work in teams, use industry tools, facilitate simple agile processes, and deliver technical and non-technical presentations just like they would in the industry.

The course structure

We've broken down the course into 4 parts to help you get the best learning experience and equip you with the skills and knowledge to start your career in development.

We also have a part time course for those with other commitments.

Study part time

  1. Foundations
    Online | 6 weeks

Foundations is an accelerated, challenging experience. You will study remotely, taking on weekly challenges and having weekly check-ins with tutors. It is vital you have reliable access to the internet with Foundations.

  2. Bootcamp
In Campus or Online 9 weeks, 60 hours per week

The 9 week Bootcamp is a completely immersive experience. Most students commit about 60 hours per week to lectures, assignments, challenges, and side projects.

You will be guided by teachers who are passionate about helping students master the principles of software development, and you will learn by solving challenges in pairs, solo and in group projects.

  3. Human Skills
    Weekly deep dives and check-ins

While we train you to be a junior developer, we equally emphasise teaching collaboration and interpersonal skills. Most we development is done in teams and requires effective communication with designers, project managers, and clients.

  4. Careers
    2 weeks after Bootcamp | 50 hours

Our career sessions will help you develop the skills to land your first dev job and grow your career. Topics include effectively job hunting, CV preparation, and skills for interviewing. Careers sessions are recorded so graduates can review them when preparing for a big job interview. Graduates can also work 1-on-1 with an industry recruiter to help with their job seeking efforts.

From Public Sector to Software Engineer in 17 Weeks

Chris Swan - Software Engineer at Reveal.

In a remarkable turnaround, Chris, once an archivist, embraced a total career shift to become a full-time developer with the help of Dev Academy.

"You can trust the process; the course has been around long enough and had enough iterations that it is well curated in getting people from having little or no technology experience to being competent and capable developers quickly."

Chris held a significant position at the New Zealand archives. However, limited prospects for long-term career advancement led him to a total career shift into his current role as a Software Engineer. Read the full story here.
